Crystal portals allow characters to be teleported from one side of the board to a different point, making it difficult to find the solution at each level. Fireboy and Watergirl are similar to the previous 3 games in this game. As in the forest temple or the temple of Light, players must solve each level as soon as possible and reach the exit gates while collecting red, blue and grey diamonds along the way. To finish a level, the two players must work together and clear the path from each other to the exit door.

The Crystal Temple introduces Crystal portals, a new perspective to the game. Crystal portals allow players to teleport themselves to a different location on the board. Some portals must be enabled by using handles or buttons.

Temples in the game include 4 previous temples as well as 3 new temples: fire, water, and wind. To access the new temples, you must first complete several levels in the Forest Temple. The game strategy continues the same concepts as in previous games.

Fireboy and Watergirl 5 must work together to complete each level. Fireboy should stay away from water pools and Watergirl lava pools. Each level is a type of puzzle in which participants must find the right movements to complete. As you complete each level, you need to collect as many diamonds as you can to get a better score.

Fire Temple levels are unique because there are lava pools that only Fireboy can navigate inside, and there are no pools of water. It seems like an easy temple for Fireboy, but vice versa. Fireboy must do all he can to get to Watergirl's door. After all, the struggle is slimy together.
